PU Monthly Report: March 2024
Welcome to the latest PU Monthly Report, detailing all the development progress made throughout March. With Alpha 3.23 on the horizon, CitizenCon approaching, and Pyro inching closer, there's a lot to look forward to this year in Star Citizen. Read on for everything done in pursuit of these endeavors and more.
AI Improvements
The AI Features team continued to fix bugs and improve Human combat and other AI behaviors. They adopted a comprehensive approach to eliminate recurring issues, similar to how they tackled the infamous "standing on chairs" bug.
AI Tech focused on finalizing features for Alpha 3.23 and optimizing existing systems. They completed work on planetary navigation, allowing navigation mesh generation over entire planets using concepts from the Physics and Planetary Tech teams. This new method uses a volume with a skewed square base, enabling navigation mesh generation everywhere on all types of planets and moons.
The team also made substantial improvements to ship behaviors, the aiming-control system for ships and turrets, and perception with added support for missile detection. They continued enhancing the AI tools, including improvements to Apollo.
Art and Animation Progress
The Animation team worked on creatures like the "Space Cow", a medium-sized bird, and a predator wolf-like creature. They also created new vehicle entrance animations.
Character Art completed branded racing flightsuits and continued work on Headhunters gang outfits. Character Concept Art began exploring specialist armors.
The Ship Art team made significant progress on the RSI Zeus, completing greybox and validating functionality. Work continued on the Anvil Legionnaire and updates to legacy ships. The Resource Network implementation began for multiple ships.
Community Engagement
The Community team supported events like the Overdrive Initiative and Stella Fortuna, including a banner design contest. They helped prepare the RSI Launcher 2.0 for release and supported preparations for Alpha 3.23, 4.0, and beyond.
The team shared updates through Roadmap Roundups and recognized outstanding players in the Alpha 3.22 Test Universe Champions. They also supported community events like Bar Citizen Manchester and racing leagues.
Gameplay and Features
Core Gameplay passed several go/no-go gates for features like procedural recoil, new scopes, dynamic crosshairs, and reload improvements. Work progressed on ammo repooling, looting UI updates, and base building preproduction.
Mission Design restructured and began working on new wildlife-related missions. They also made improvements to existing missions like Destroy Illegal Satellites and continued work on events like Blockade Runner and XenoThreat.
The team developed new cargo hauling missions and iterated on data heist missions to improve multiplayer experiences.
Technical Advancements
Graphics, VFX, and Planet Tech teams made improvements to water simulation, Vulkan implementation, and began work on Planet Tech v5. The R&D team continued developing the temporal render mode and supported Gen12/Vulkan efforts.
Online Technology worked on refactoring social services backend, reducing anti-cheat false positives, and finishing long-term persistence for the Character Customizer.
UI and VFX Updates
The UI teams focused on new cargo gameplay elements, preparing for upcoming features like the Resource Network and jump points, and polishing the new mobiGlas, visor, and lens designs.
VFX completed work on distribution centers and freight elevators, progressed on jump point effects, and revisited water effects to align with graphics improvements.
As Star Citizen continues to evolve, these developments across various departments showcase the ongoing commitment to creating an immersive and expansive universe for players to explore. With Alpha 3.23 approaching and future updates on the horizon, the game's progress remains steady and promising.
The 30K.fun Adventure: A Star Citizen Tale
Captain Jenna sat in the cockpit of her trusty Constellation Andromeda, staring at the quantum drive readout. "Not again," she muttered, watching the familiar error message flash across the screen. It was the dreaded 30K, the bane of every pilot's existence in the Stanton system.
As her ship drifted aimlessly through space, Jenna couldn't help but chuckle. She'd heard about a group of pilots who embraced these moments of chaos, turning bugs into opportunities for adventure. They called themselves the 30K.fun Referral Club.
Just then, her comms crackled to life. "Hey there, stranded traveler! Need a hand?" The cheerful voice belonged to Max, a member of the very club Jenna had been thinking about.
"You bet," Jenna replied, grateful for the company. As Max's Cutlass Red came into view, she couldn't help but notice the playful 30K.fun logo emblazoned on its hull.
While Max worked on getting Jenna's quantum drive back online, they chatted about the club. "We're all about having fun, even when things go sideways," Max explained. "Plus, we love helping new pilots get started. Ever heard of our Star Citizen referral code club?"
Jenna shook her head, intrigued. Max continued, "It's a great way for newcomers to join the 'Verse. But enough about that – your drive's fixed! How about we head to Grim HEX for a celebratory drink?"
As they quantum traveled together, Jenna couldn't help but smile. In the face of bugs and glitches, she'd found a new friend and a group that embraced the unpredictable nature of life in Stanton.
Landing at Grim HEX, they met up with other 30K.fun members. The group swapped stories of their wildest encounters, from ships spawning inside planets to gravity suddenly reversing mid-flight.
"To the bugs that bring us together!" someone toasted, raising a glass of Radegast whiskey.
Jenna clinked her glass with the others, feeling like she'd found her people. As the night wore on, she found herself asking, "What code to use to join this crazy bunch?"
Max grinned, "Welcome aboard, pilot. Let me tell you about the Star Citizen Referral Code Club..."
As Jenna listened, she knew her adventures in the 'Verse were about to get a whole lot more interesting – 30Ks and all.
