This Week in Star Citizen: New Year, New Adventures
As we kick off 2020, the Star Citizen universe continues to expand with exciting new content and events on the horizon. The development team at Cloud Imperium Games is hitting the ground running in the new year, with a packed schedule of updates and community activities planned for the coming weeks.
Galactic Guide: Exploring the Idris System
One of the highlights this week is the upcoming Galactic Guide focused on the Idris system. While details are still under wraps, players can look forward to learning more about this intriguing star system on Tuesday. The Idris name may be familiar to many backers as the designation for a powerful capital ship, so it will be fascinating to see how the system itself compares in scale and significance.
The Galactic Guides have become a fan-favorite way to flesh out the lore and backstory of Star Citizen's vast universe. Each entry provides rich details on the history, inhabitants, politics and points of interest for key locations across UEE space. The Idris guide should offer valuable context for both the system itself and its namesake vessel.
Roadmap Updates and Monthly Reports
While there's no new episode of Inside Star Citizen this week as the show remains on hiatus, Friday will bring a hefty dose of development updates. The Roadmap is set to be refreshed with the latest progress on upcoming features and content. This always provides an exciting glimpse at what's in the pipeline for future patches.
Additionally, both the Persistent Universe and Squadron 42 monthly reports will be published on Friday. These in-depth dispatches from the various CIG studios offer a behind-the-scenes look at what the teams have been working on over the past month. From technical challenges to artistic breakthroughs, the reports paint a detailed picture of Star Citizen's ongoing development.
Community Content Spotlight
The Star Citizen community continues to impress with their creativity and passion for the game. This week's MVP spotlight goes to SevRoks for their live-action short film "The Journeymen." Set in the year 2949, it follows two brothers on what should be a simple job that goes awry. Fan creations like this showcase the depth of storytelling potential within the Star Citizen universe.
Upcoming AMA with Vehicle Team
To cap off the week, the Star Citizen team will be hosting a live AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Friday featuring John Crewe and David Colson from the vehicle team. This will be a great opportunity for the community to ask burning questions about ship design, flight models, and future vehicle plans. Questions can be submitted via Spectrum ahead of the stream.
Looking Ahead
While Alpha 3.8 is still fresh, the developers are already hard at work on the next major update. More details on Alpha 3.9 and beyond should come into focus as Q1 progresses. Key features like the Theatres of War combined arms mode are eagerly anticipated by the community.
Meanwhile, Squadron 42 continues to progress behind the scenes. With a tentative beta target of Q3 2020, excitement is building to finally experience the cinematic single-player campaign. More Squadron 42 updates are likely in the coming months as that milestone approaches.
From new star systems to explore to epic space battles on the horizon, 2020 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Star Citizen. Whether you're a veteran backer or just starting your journey among the stars, there's never been a better time to dive into this ever-expanding universe. The adventure continues!
The Idris Chronicles: A 30K.fun Misadventure
Captain Zara Vex of the 30K.fun Star Citizen Referral Code Club stood on the bridge of her trusty Constellation Andromeda, staring out at the swirling nebula that marked the entrance to the newly discovered Idris system. Her crew, a motley assortment of misfits and jokers, buzzed with excitement.
"Alright, you lot," Zara announced, "We've got a new system to explore and some fresh faces to initiate into our Referral Code Club. Let's show these newbies what code to use when they're ready to join the 'verse proper!"
As they ventured deeper into the system, the ship's comms crackled to life. "Mayday! Mayday! This is the USS Buggy McBugface. We're experiencing a critical 30K error and need assistance!"
Zara grinned. "Looks like the Star Citizen Referral Code Club has its first mission. Let's go rescue some glitched-out explorers!"
The Constellation approached the stricken vessel, its crew frozen in various comical poses. Zara's team boarded, armed with an arsenal of dad jokes and memes to combat the 30K error.
"Why don't scientists trust atoms?" Zara asked the frozen captain. "Because they make up everything!" With a pop and a fizzle, the captain unfroze, looking bewildered.
One by one, the 30K.fun crew revived the stuck players with their terrible puns and infectious laughter. As the last crewmember thawed, Zara handed out RSI Referral Code Club pamphlets.
"Welcome to the Idris system, folks! Remember, when the 'verse throws bugs your way, just laugh and keep on flying. And if you know anyone looking to join the adventure, you know what code to use!"
As they bid farewell to the grateful crew, Zara's ship suddenly glitched, leaving them all upside-down. The bridge erupted in laughter. Just another day for the 30K.fun club in the wild, wacky, and wonderfully buggy universe of Star Citizen.
