This Week in Star Citizen: Alpha 4.7 Launch, Aurora Mk II Debut, and Community Highlights
The Star Citizen universe continues to expand with exciting new content and features. Community Manager Lénaïc "Nicou" Riédinger has provided citizens with a comprehensive overview of recent developments and what's on the horizon for the coming week.
Alpha 4.7: Welcome To The Rock Now Live
Cloud Imperium Games has officially released Alpha 4.7, titled "Welcome To The Rock," bringing a host of new gameplay opportunities to the Persistent Universe. The update introduces players to abandoned QV Breaker Stations scattered throughout the Keeger Belt in the Nyx system. These derelict facilities contain rare and valuable resources, but accessing their full potential requires players to restore their dormant rock-cracking capabilities. However, explorers should proceed with caution—not every station has remained empty over the years.
A major milestone in this patch is the introduction of Crafting T0. Players can now utilize item fabricators to create FPS gear, including weapons and armor. The crafting system relies on blueprints earned through contracts and materials gathered across the verse. To help players navigate this new feature, Cloud Imperium has published a dedicated Crafting Gameplay Guide that walks users through the mechanics and requirements.
The update also brings significant improvements to inventory management, introducing a more intuitive interface that streamlines how players handle their equipment and gear.
The RSI Aurora Mk II Takes Flight
Roberts Space Industries has unveiled the Aurora Mk II, a modernized iteration of one of the game's most iconic starter ships. Building upon the legacy of the original Aurora, the Mk II features enhanced modular versatility and a refreshed design that maintains the spirit of its predecessor while incorporating contemporary improvements.
The ship's launch has been accompanied by comprehensive supporting content, including a Behind the Ships episode available on YouTube, a detailed Q&A Comm-Link addressing community questions, and a new trailer celebrating this next chapter for Roberts Space Industries' flagship starter vessel.
Development Roadmap Updates
The latest Roadmap Update has been published, marking all Alpha 4.7 cards as Released. Looking forward, the development team has introduced the first set of Alpha 4.8 cards, providing players with an early glimpse at upcoming features currently in development.
Planned additions for Alpha 4.8 include Refueling Missions and related improvements, Flight Suit G-Force Resistance mechanics, Ship Hangar Service T0, the Vehicle Command Module, the Transport System, and an array of new weapons. These features represent the ongoing evolution of gameplay systems and player capabilities within the Star Citizen universe.
The development teams continue to actively monitor and respond to player feedback, particularly through focused feedback threads on Spectrum and submissions to the Issue Council. This collaborative approach between developers and the community helps shape the game's continued refinement and improvement.

When the Rock Doesn't Break
"Alright, 30KFUN, listen up!" Commander Vex's voice crackled through the squadron comms as five ships emerged from quantum travel into the Keeger Belt. "We've got three newbies with us today—Starfall, Nomad, and Ghost. This is your first QV Breaker Station run, so stick close and don't touch anything unless we tell you to."
Starfall's Aurora Mk II bobbed nervously beside Vex's Cutlass Black. "Copy that. Just... wow. This place is massive."
The derelict station loomed before them, a skeletal giant of twisted metal and dormant machinery floating among the asteroids. Its rock-cracking arrays hung lifeless, like the arms of some ancient mechanical god.
"She's a beauty, isn't she?" That was Torch, piloting her Prospector alongside the formation. "These stations can crack asteroids the size of small moons. We just need to get the power back online and—"
The comms erupted in static.
"Did anyone else just lose their HUD?" Ghost asked, his Nomad drifting slightly off course.
Vex laughed. "Welcome to Alpha 4.7, folks! Looks like we've got our first bug of the day. Everyone sound off—who can still see their targeting reticle?"
A chorus of "negative" responses filled the channel.
"Classic," Nomad chimed in, and Starfall could hear the grin in his voice. "My buddy told me 30KFUN stands for '30K errors are FUN.'"
"You're not wrong," Torch said. "Okay, standard procedure—everyone cycle your power. MobiGlas off and on. Let's see if we can't coax these systems back to life."
One by one, the pilots reported their HUDs flickering back online. All except Starfall.
"Still nothing here," she admitted, embarrassed. "Maybe I should head back—"
"Absolutely not," Vex cut in firmly. "Rule number one of 30KFUN: we don't leave anyone behind, and we definitely don't let bugs win. Torch, talk her through the manual reset."
For the next five minutes, Torch patiently walked Starfall through a series of commands she'd never heard of, while the rest of the squadron maintained formation around her Aurora. When her HUD finally blazed back to life, a small cheer erupted over comms.
"See?" Vex said warmly. "You just learned something that'll save you a dozen trips back to a station. Now, let's get inside this beast."
The squadron approached the station's docking bay, but as they drew closer, Vex's scanners lit up. "Hold position! I'm reading active signatures inside. This station isn't as abandoned as we thought."
"Pirates?" Ghost asked.
"Or worse—other players who don't want to share." Vex's tone shifted to tactical. "New plan. Starfall, Nomad, Ghost—you three hang back at the entrance. Torch and I will clear the interior. If things go sideways, you jump out and call for backup on the 30KFUN Discord."
"Wait," Starfall protested. "We came here to help, not hide."
"And you are helping," Torch assured her. "You're our exit strategy. Plus, someone needs to watch our ships. Trust me, you don't want to clear a station only to find your ride stolen."
The two veterans disappeared into the station's maw while the newbies formed a defensive perimeter. Starfall's hands were slick with sweat on her controls.
Minutes passed. Then: "Contact! We've got hostile NPCs, not players. Looks like someone left the security systems online. Starfall, we need you."
"Me?" Her voice cracked slightly.
"You've got that crafting blueprint for the Coda pistol, right? The one from the contract you ran yesterday?"
"Yeah, but I haven't made it yet—"
"There's a fabricator in the station's crew quarters, second level. We're pinned down on level three. If you can craft that weapon and bring it up, I can hold them off while Vex restores the power core."
Starfall looked at the station entrance, then at her Aurora. Every instinct screamed at her to stay put.
"I'll go with you," Nomad said quietly. "Two sets of eyes are better than one."
"Make it three," Ghost added. "30KFUN doesn't send anyone in alone, right?"
Vex's voice came through, warm despite the sound of gunfire in the background. "That's the spirit. Okay, rookies, you've got this. Follow the yellow maintenance lines to the crew quarters. And remember—if you die, we'll just come back and laugh about it later."
The three new pilots docked and made their way through the station's corridors, their helmet lights cutting through the darkness. Ghost kept checking his mobiGlas against the station map that Torch had shared from their screen-reader friendly guide database.
"Left here," he directed. "Should be just ahead."
They found the fabricator humming in standby mode. Starfall accessed it with shaking hands, loading her blueprint and the materials she'd gathered over the past week. The progress bar began to fill.
"Sixty seconds," she reported over comms.
"Make it forty-five," Vex grunted. "These guys really don't want us here."
The fabricator beeped. Starfall grabbed the freshly crafted Coda pistol, its weight reassuringly solid in her hand. "Got it! On our way up."
They sprinted through the corridors, following the sounds of combat. On level three, they found Torch crouched behind a cargo container, her shield flickering under sustained fire from three security drones.
Starfall slid the pistol across the deck. Torch snatched it up, checked the charge, and grinned. "Perfect. Cover me!"
What happened next was a blur of energy blasts and tactical callouts. Ghost provided suppressing fire while Nomad helped Torch flank the drones. Starfall, despite her inexperience, managed to disable one drone's shield with a lucky shot.
"Vex, you're clear!" Torch shouted.
"Activating power core now!"
The station shuddered. Lights flickered on throughout the facility, and through the viewports, they could see the massive rock-cracking arrays beginning to rotate, charging with power.
Then everything went black.
"No," Ghost whispered. "No, no, no—"
"30K error," Vex announced, his voice somehow still cheerful despite the disconnect message. "Server crash. Everyone back to main menu."
When they all reconnected fifteen minutes later, they found themselves back in their ships at the station entrance, as if nothing had happened.
"Well," Starfall said after a long silence. "That was—"
"Hilarious," Torch finished. "And totally normal. Welcome to Star Citizen, newbies."
"So we lost everything?" Nomad asked.
"Not everything," Vex corrected. "You learned how to craft under pressure, navigate a derelict station, and work as a team. Plus, Starfall, you kept that blueprint and materials. The station's still here. We just try again."
"Right now?" Ghost asked.
"Unless you've got somewhere better to be?"
This time, the run went smoothly. They cleared the station, restored power, and spent the next two hours cracking asteroids for rare minerals. When a bug caused Nomad's ship to suddenly flip upside down during a landing, the entire squadron spent five minutes trying to help him land inverted, laughing so hard they could barely give instructions.
As they finally headed back to port, their cargo holds full and their spirits higher, Starfall realized something. She'd been so worried about making mistakes, about not being good enough, about the game's bugs ruining everything.
But with 30KFUN, the bugs were just part of the adventure. The mistakes were learning opportunities. And the community? They were the real treasure.
"Same time next week?" she asked.
"Absolutely," Vex replied. "And hey, Starfall? Update the station guide on our website when you get a chance. Add that bit about the manual HUD reset. Someone else will need it."
"Will do, Commander."
As her Aurora Mk II jumped to quantum, leaving the Keeger Belt behind, Starfall smiled. She'd found her crew. And in the vast, buggy, beautiful universe of Star Citizen, that was worth more than all the rare minerals in the verse.
Even if they did have to do it twice because of a server crash.
Especially because they did it twice.
That was the 30KFUN way.
