This Week in Star Citizen: Alpha 4.7.2 Brings Nearly 100 New Contracts to Nyx System
Star Citizen fans have plenty to look forward to this week as Cloud Imperium Games prepares to roll out Alpha 4.7.2, bringing a massive expansion of mission content to the Nyx System. The update continues building on the foundation laid by patch 4.7, which introduced QV Breaker Stations and social hubs to the lawless region of space.
Major Mission Expansion Coming to Nyx
The highlight of this week's update is the arrival of nearly 100 new contracts spanning 13 different archetypes. This substantial addition to the mission system will give players significantly more variety in their activities within the Nyx System. Particularly exciting for newer players is the return of entry-level mission types that have been community favorites, including Courier and Delivery Pilot contracts. These missions provide an accessible entry point for citizens looking to establish themselves in the transport industry without requiring significant investment in specialized equipment or skills.
Beyond simply adding quantity, some of these new contracts will introduce fresh gameplay opportunities unique to Nyx. Select missions will offer blueprint rewards, adding a crafting progression element that ties into the game's evolving manufacturing systems. This integration of mission rewards with the crafting system represents another step toward the interconnected gameplay loops that Star Citizen aims to deliver.
Alpha 4.8 Testing Approaches
Looking beyond this week's patch, the development team has confirmed that Evocati testing for Alpha 4.8 is approaching rapidly. If development proceeds according to schedule, the first wave of Evocati testers could gain access before the end of the week, with additional testing waves following shortly thereafter. This accelerated timeline suggests that the next major patch cycle is progressing smoothly through internal development milestones.
Additionally, a new Tech Preview build featuring Instancing technology is being prepared for release in the coming days. Tech Preview builds allow the community to test experimental features and provide feedback on systems that may not yet be fully integrated into the main game build.
Recent Community Engagement
Last week saw the crafting and inventory teams participate in Star Citizen Live, where they fielded community questions about implemented features and discussed upcoming additions to these systems. The video-on-demand recording is available for those who missed the live broadcast. The April Monthly Bundle also became available, offering subscribers their monthly selection of curated items.
Weekly Content Schedule
Wednesday will be a busy day for Star Citizen news, with Alpha 4.7.2 launching alongside the regular Roadmap Update and Roadmap Roundup. These weekly publications provide transparency into the development process, showing what features are currently in progress and offering insights into the project's direction.
Friday brings the RSI Weekly Newsletter to inboxes across the community, delivering a curated summary of the week's happenings. Subscribers will also receive the April issue of Jump Point magazine on May 2nd, the monthly publication that offers behind-the-scenes looks at Star Citizen's development.
LVL UP EXPO in Las Vegas
This weekend marks a significant community event as Cloud Imperium Games brings Star Citizen to LVL UP EXPO at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 24-26. The company is partnering with AMD and CLX Gaming to create an immersive booth experience on the show floor, with development team members present throughout the weekend to meet fans and demonstrate the game.
Attendees will have the opportunity to play Vanduul Swarm using high-end hardware provided by Virpil and Tobii, experiencing the game's combat with premium flight simulation equipment and eye-tracking technology. A custom CLX Gaming PC will be given away during the event, with booth visitors able to earn extra entries. Cosplayers who arrive in costume will receive additional entries, encouraging the creative community to showcase their Star Citizen-inspired outfits.
Saturday night will feature a Bar Citizen event as part of the official LVL UP EXPO afterparty, providing an opportunity for the community to socialize with fellow citizens and development team members in a more casual setting.
International Community Events
Across the Atlantic, the Danish Star Citizen community has organized a presence at Gamebox Festival in Herning this weekend. The community-run booth will showcase the game, with several Cloud Imperium team members planning to attend and spend time with European fans. A Bar Citizen event will also take place on Saturday in conjunction with the festival, continuing the tradition of community gatherings around the world.
Community Spotlight
This week's Community MVP recognition goes to Slingshot-Cal and the Deep Space Crew for their creative cinematic breakdown of the VOLT Prism Shotgun. The unconventional weapon manufacturer VOLT is known for producing unique firearms, and this community-created video matches that creative energy with an entertaining and informative review format. The recognition comes with an MVP badge on Spectrum and permanent placement in the Community Hub's MVP section.
The Community Hub continues to showcase exceptional fan-created content from across the player base. This week's highlighted images include a helmet poster design by ShanHe200585, an atmospheric special forces composition by iNEEDAPEA, a Golem-focused scientific screenshot by WhosButWhyTho, and a vehicle-centric image by Draal_Iskaldur. These diverse contributions demonstrate the breadth of creative expression within the Star Citizen community, from graphic design to in-game photography.
The Community Hub remains open for all players to submit their artwork, cinematics, guides, and other creative works. Each week, the community team selects standout submissions for recognition, with one piece receiving the MVP designation.
Looking Ahead
With Alpha 4.7.2 expanding mission content in Nyx, the imminent Evocati testing of Alpha 4.8, and community events on two continents, Star Citizen fans have plenty to engage with in the coming days. The steady cadence of updates and community interaction continues to build momentum as the project moves through its development phases. Whether diving into new contracts, attending real-world events, or creating content for the Community Hub, citizens have numerous ways to participate in the evolving universe.
When Nyx Calls, 30K Answers
The mission briefing flickered on Commander Jax's mobi-Glass as his Constellation Andromeda drifted near the newly established QV Breaker Station in Nyx. "Nearly a hundred new contracts just dropped," he announced over the community channel. "Who's ready to make some credits?"
"I'm in," replied Whisper, her voice crackling through comms from her Cutlass Black. "Though knowing our luck, we'll get about three missions done before the server decides to take a vacation."
"That's the spirit!" laughed Torchbearer, piloting his trusty Freelancer alongside them. "Optimism with a side of reality. Very 30KFUN of you."
The three veterans had been flying together for years, weathering every bug and disconnection the alpha could throw at them. Today, they'd brought along two newer community members: Nebula, who'd just earned enough for her first ship, and Kodiak, still learning the ropes of quantum travel.
"Okay, newbies," Jax said warmly, "we're going to run some of these new Courier missions. Perfect for learning the system. Nebula, you stick with Whisper. Kodiak, you're my wingman. Torch, you've got overwatch."
"Copy that," Kodiak replied, his Aurora bobbing enthusiastically beside Jax's Constellation. "I promise not to accidentally shoot you this time."
"That was one time during Arena Commander," Nebula protested with a laugh.
They accepted a straightforward delivery contract—medical supplies to a distant outpost. Simple. Clean. What could go wrong?
Everything, as it turned out.
Fifteen minutes into their quantum jump, Kodiak's Aurora suddenly vanished from sensors.
"Uh, guys?" His voice came through comms. "I'm... inside an asteroid? Like, literally clipped through it. I can see rock textures on all sides."
Whisper snorted. "Classic. Don't move. Torch, you got the rescue guide pulled up?"
"Already on it," Torchbearer responded. Within seconds, he'd linked the relevant section from 30KFUN's troubleshooting documentation. "Kodiak, open your mobi-Glass and try storing your ship. If that doesn't work, we'll have you self-destruct and come pick you up."
"The guide says to try backing up first while rotating," Nebula added, clearly reading along. "Third option down."
"You guys have a guide for everything," Kodiak marveled as he attempted the maneuver. His Aurora shuddered, phased through several meters of asteroid, and popped free into open space. "It worked! I'm out!"
"30KFUN doesn't just stand for the disconnect error," Jax said proudly. "It's a promise. We have fun no matter what the 'verse throws at us."
They resumed their journey, but Nyx had other plans.
As they approached the delivery point, six hostile contacts appeared on sensors—a pirate interdiction force.
"Well, this just got interesting," Whisper said, her Cutlass already banking hard. "Nebula, stay on my six. We're going to show you how to dance."
"Kodiak, target the leftmost Buccaneer," Jax commanded, his Constellation's turrets coming online. "Don't try anything fancy. Just keep firing and keep moving. Torch, can you—"
"Already flanking," Torchbearer interrupted, his Freelancer arcing wide to catch the pirates in a crossfire.
The space around them erupted in weapons fire. Jax's Constellation absorbed hits on its forward shields while its automated turrets tracked targets. Whisper's Cutlass weaved through the chaos, her guns chewing through a pirate's shields with practiced precision.
"I hit one!" Kodiak shouted. "Wait, did I hit one? My damage indicators are showing... nothing? Everything? I can't tell!"
"Welcome to alpha gameplay," Nebula laughed, even as she struggled to keep her own Aurora steady. "Just keep shooting in their general direction!"
"Kodiak, you're doing fine," Jax assured him, his voice calm despite the missile lock warning blaring in his cockpit. "Nebula, break right—NOW!"
She reacted instantly, barely avoiding a torpedo that streaked past her canopy. The explosion behind her rattled her shields but didn't breach them.
Torchbearer's Freelancer hammered the pirate formation from their flank, and suddenly the odds shifted. Two pirates broke off, their ships trailing atmosphere. A third exploded in a brilliant flash as Whisper's sustained fire found its power plant.
"Three down, three running," Jax reported. "Not today, pirates. Not with 30KFUN on duty."
The remaining hostiles jumped away, leaving the convoy victorious but battered.
"Everyone okay?" Whisper asked.
"My shields are at twelve percent and I think my landing gear is stuck deployed," Nebula reported, "but I'm alive!"
"I'm good!" Kodiak added. "That was incredible! I mean, terrifying, but incredible!"
They completed the delivery without further incident, the grateful outpost personnel transferring credits and—surprisingly—a blueprint for a weapon component.
"Oh, nice," Torchbearer said, examining the reward. "These new crafting blueprints are going to be useful. I'll add this to the community database when we get back."
"Speaking of which," Jax said, checking his mobi-Glass, "we should probably head to Port Olisar before—"
The server disconnected.
All five of them sat in silence for exactly three seconds before their Discord channel exploded with laughter.
"THIRTY K!" they shouted in unison, the community's battle cry against the infamous error.
"Same time tomorrow?" Whisper asked as they began logging back in.
"Absolutely," Jax confirmed. "We've got ninety-seven more contracts to try. At this rate, we might finish ten of them before the week's out."
"And we'll have fun doing every single one," Kodiak said, his enthusiasm undimmed by the disconnect.
"That's the 30KFUN guarantee," Nebula agreed.
As they logged back into the persistent universe, their ships respawning at various stations across Stanton, the community channel buzzed with plans for the next session. Someone shared an updated mission guide. Another member posted screenshots from their own Nyx adventures. A veteran offered to help newer players earn enough for better ships.
The server might crash. The bugs might be legion. The alpha might throw every technical challenge imaginable at them.
But 30KFUN would be there, flying together, laughing together, and making sure every citizen—new or veteran—had someone watching their six.
Because in the vast, unfinished universe of Star Citizen, the best feature wasn't any ship or system or planet.
It was the people you flew with.
