Star Citizen's New Referral Program: A Complete Overhaul

Star Citizen fans, prepare for liftoff! The long-awaited revamp of the Referral Program is set to launch on July 2, 2025, bringing with it a host of exciting changes and improvements. This comprehensive overhaul promises to deliver a more engaging, rewarding, and user-friendly experience for both veteran and rookie pilots alike.
A Fresh Start with a Modern Interface
The new Referral Program has been rebuilt from the ground up, featuring a sleek and intuitive interface designed to enhance usability. Players can look forward to animated milestones, clearer progression tracking, and an overall smoother experience when navigating and engaging with their referrals.
Revamped Leaderboards
One of the most significant improvements is the redesigned leaderboard system. The new setup offers more flexible tracking options, allowing players to filter results by weekly, monthly, and yearly periods. This change gives both newcomers and long-time veterans an opportunity to shine and compete on a more level playing field.
Enhanced Rewards System
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the new program is the completely refreshed rewards ladder. Players can now earn more frequent and meaningful unlocks as they progress. Some of the enticing new rewards include:
- Landing zone-themed loot
- Star Kitten and Big Benny's collectible tints for the Freelancer series
- Highly sought-after ships, including the Vanduul Scythe and Idris-M
- The legendary MISC Raptor (still in development, to be delivered at a later date)
Improved Benefits for New Players
The Referral Program isn't just about rewarding those who bring in new players – it's also designed to give newcomers a boost. New players who join using a referral code will now receive a generous 50,000 UEC bonus, up from the previous 5,000 UEC. This tenfold increase provides a significant head start for those beginning their journey in the Star Citizen universe.
Legacy Ladder and Transition
For players who have already been active in the Referral Program, there's no need to worry about losing progress. Those who have referred at least one player who purchased a game package before July 2 will retain access to what is now called the Legacy Ladder. This can be viewed via Account Settings, and interestingly, new referrals will count towards both the Legacy and new ladders simultaneously, allowing players to earn rewards on both tracks.
Key Changes and Features
Several other noteworthy improvements have been implemented in the new Referral Program:
- A 24-hour grace period after account creation, allowing new players to retroactively add a referral code if they initially forgot
- Existing referral codes remain valid for those who have used the program before
- All current Prospects (people who used a referral code but haven't bought a package yet) will carry over to the new system
- The new leaderboard system allows sorting by weekly, monthly, yearly, or all-time periods
Why the Change?
The decision to overhaul the Referral Program stems from the recognition that the original system was showing its age, both in terms of design and rewards. This revamp brings the program up to speed with a modern look, improved usability, and a reward structure that better reflects the current state of the Star Citizen community.
Looking Ahead
As the Star Citizen universe continues to expand, so too does the potential for community growth and engagement. The new Referral Program represents a significant step forward in rewarding player loyalty and encouraging the expansion of the game's player base.
With its launch just around the corner, now is the perfect time for Star Citizen enthusiasts to prepare for the new opportunities and rewards that await. Whether you're a seasoned recruiter or just starting your journey in the 'verse, the revamped Referral Program promises something exciting for everyone.
Mark your calendars for July 2, 2025, and get ready to experience a whole new dimension of community building in Star Citizen!
The Scythe's Second Chance
"30K imminent! Everyone back to the Carrack!"
Captain Maya's voice crackled through the comms as warning indicators flashed across the bridge of the massive exploration vessel. The ship's quantum drive hummed ominously, its pitch rising to a concerning whine.
Dex, 30KFUN's newest member, frantically tapped at his mobiGlas. "I just spent all my UEC on this mining equipment!"
"Leave it!" shouted Viper, the group's veteran pilot. "The server's going down. Nothing we can do but get to safety and laugh about it later!"
The six members of the 30KFUN expedition team scrambled across the rocky surface of Aberdeen, abandoning their mining operation as the telltale signs of an impending server disconnection manifested around them. Gravity glitches sent rocks floating skyward. NPCs froze mid-stride. The writing was on the wall.
Back aboard the Carrack, Captain Maya initiated emergency protocols they'd developed through countless similar situations. "Alright, everyone in position for Operation Phoenix!"
"This again?" groaned Dex.
"Trust the process, newbie," chuckled Rogue, the group's resident salvage expert. "30KFUN didn't get its name by giving up when the servers get wonky."
The team moved with practiced efficiency, each member taking their position. As the dreaded disconnection hit, their screens went black, but their Discord channel remained alive with laughter and strategy.
"Same server, same mission, fifteen minutes," Maya commanded. "Dex, I've got a spare set of mining equipment in my inventory. You'll be back up and running in no time."
Two hours later, with their mining operation successfully completed despite the earlier setback, the 30KFUN crew gathered in the Carrack's observation deck, watching the sunset over Aberdeen.
"Not a bad haul," said Zenith, examining the refined quantanium they'd managed to extract. "Should fetch around 100,000 UEC at Lorville."
"Speaking of Lorville," Maya said, pulling up a mission notification on her mobiGlas, "I just received an interesting contract. Apparently, there's a derelict Vanduul Scythe that's been located near Hurston. The same model that's being offered in the new referral program."
Viper whistled. "Those are rare birds. Thought they were only available as special rewards."
"This one's damaged beyond repair for flying," Maya explained, "but the client wants it recovered for research purposes. High-risk, high-reward."
"What's the catch?" asked Hammer, the group's security specialist.
"It's in contested space. We'll likely have to deal with NPC pirates, possibly other players."
Dex shifted nervously. "I've only been playing for a week. I'm not sure I'll be much help in a fight."
Rogue placed a reassuring hand on Dex's shoulder. "That's why you're with 30KFUN, kid. We look after our own. I'll walk you through weapon systems on my Cutlass. By the time we reach Hurston, you'll be taking down Vanduul with the best of them."
The mission proved more challenging than anticipated. As the 30KFUN fleet approached the derelict Scythe, three pirate Mantis ships decoupled from the shadows of a nearby asteroid field, their quantum dampeners immediately activating.
"We're snared!" shouted Hammer from the Carrack's turret. "Can't quantum out!"
"Everyone stay calm," Maya's steady voice commanded. "Hammer, Viper, defensive positions. Rogue, take Dex in the Cutlass and flank from below. Zenith and I will push forward in the Carrack."
The space around the derelict Scythe erupted in laser fire and missile contrails. Dex found himself manning the Cutlass's turret, his hands shaking as Rogue executed a series of complex evasive maneuvers.
"Lead your targets, Dex!" coached Rogue. "Remember what we practiced in Arena Commander. These pirates fly in predictable patterns."
Drawing a deep breath, Dex steadied his aim and squeezed the trigger. His shots connected with the nearest Mantis, its shields flickering under the assault.
"That's it!" cheered Rogue. "Keep it up!"
The battle raged for several minutes, the 30KFUN team communicating with practiced efficiency. When one of the pirate ships broke through to target their vulnerable salvage vessel, Viper executed a perfect intercept in his Gladius, drawing fire away.
Just as victory seemed within reach, Dex's screen began to stutter.
"Oh no," he groaned. "Not now!"
"Client crash," diagnosed Zenith immediately. "Dex, restart and rejoin. We'll hold the line."
"But you need me on the turret!" Dex protested.
"We've got this," Rogue assured him. "The 30KFUN motto, remember?"
In unison, the entire team recited: "Bugs are temporary, friendships are permanent!"
When Dex rejoined the server ten minutes later, he found the battle won and the team already securing the derelict Scythe. Maya had even managed to save his share of the bounty rewards.
As they towed the ancient Vanduul craft back to Lorville, the team gathered in the Carrack's mess hall, sharing stories and advice.
"You did good out there, Dex," Maya said, raising a virtual toast. "Not everyone keeps their cool during their first major firefight, especially with technical issues thrown in."
"That's what makes 30KFUN special," added Zenith. "We've all been where you are. The game's not perfect, but the community makes it worth it."
Rogue pulled up a holographic display of the Scythe. "You know, I've been working on a screen-reader friendly guide to Vanduul ship components for our website. This recovery mission will provide excellent reference material."
"Always thinking about how to make the 'verse more accessible," Hammer chuckled. "That's why we love you, Rogue."
As the Carrack approached Lorville, its hold containing the rare Vanduul prize, Dex found himself smiling despite the earlier frustrations. In just one week with 30KFUN, he'd experienced more adventure—and more genuine camaraderie—than in years of playing other games.
"So," Maya asked, already pulling up the mission board, "what shall we tackle next?"
The entire crew leaned forward eagerly, undeterred by the day's challenges and ready for whatever the Star Citizen universe might throw at them next.
After all, they were 30KFUN. Disconnects happened. Bugs were inevitable. But the adventure—and the friendship—continued regardless.
