The Star Citizen development teams kicked off 2024 with significant progress across multiple areas of the Persistent Universe. From AI improvements to new ship development, location building to gameplay features, January saw advancements that will shape the evolving Star Citizen experience.

AI Enhancements

The AI teams focused on several key improvements in January. Multiple NPCs can now use ladders simultaneously when moving in the same direction. The transit system received upgrades for smoother logic and more robust handling of failures and retries. NPC elevator usage was refined to create more efficient and natural-looking sequences.

Work continued on generating navigation mesh on planets to support NPC movement at outpost locations, particularly near the poles. The teams also made progress on spaceship combat behaviors and began developing a new data loading procedure for Subsumption to allow for stricter requirements and easier issue identification.

Ship Development

Several ships saw significant progress in January. The RSI Zeus advanced through the greybox stage, with areas like the entrance ladder and engineering receiving focus. The RSI Polaris entered greybox, with modular pieces completed for lifts, habitation areas, corridors and the hangar.

An unannounced ship received lighting updates, material refactors, and other visual improvements. Two ship variants also moved forward, with one entering the LOD0 phase and another completing it. Additionally, gold standard work began on updating the Aegis Retaliator.

New Locations and Features

The Environment teams made headway on several new locations. Work continued on the upcoming Distribution Centers, with integration of branding elements. Development of Pyro's outposts progressed, including finalization of signage. The teams also advanced new derelict settlements and kicked off whitebox work on building interiors.

For gameplay features, the Core Gameplay teams focused on porting over features from Squadron 42 to the PU and making them multiplayer-compatible. This included improvements to recoil, dynamic crosshairs, and EVA mechanics. Progress was also made on resource networks, life support systems, and jump point gameplay.

UI and UX Improvements

The UI team developed a Building Blocks framework for the new freight elevator interface. They also worked on enhancing the overall user experience for item shops and crafted wireframes for an updated commodity kiosk. A new Launcher team was formed to develop Launcher 2.0, bringing a fresh design and updated technology.

Community Engagement

The Community team kicked off 2024 by announcing winners of the Luminalia Greeting Card contest and participating in the player-organized Daymar Rally event. They also began planning for CitizenCon 2954 and continued the Bar Citizen World Tour with an event in Barcelona.

With progress across AI, ships, locations, gameplay and more, January set a strong foundation for Star Citizen's continued development throughout 2024. As new features and content make their way into the Persistent Universe, the evolving experience draws ever closer to realizing the full vision for this ambitious space sim.

A Glitchy Adventure in Stanton

Captain Jenna sighed as she stared at the dreaded "30K" error message on her ship's console. Another server crash had unceremoniously booted her from the 'verse. But as a member of the 30K.fun Star Citizen Referral Code Club, she knew how to make the best of these frustrating moments.

"Time for some impromptu exploration!" she announced to her crew. They had been attempting a cargo run from Hurston to ArcCorp when the disconnect occurred. Now seemed as good a time as any to check out that new Distribution Center they'd heard rumors about.

As they prepared to log back in, Jenna's co-pilot chimed in. "Hey, my cousin's looking to join the 'verse. Any idea what code to use for the best bonuses?"

"The Star Citizen Referral Code Club has got you covered," Jenna replied with a wink. "Just tell them to check out our org page for all the details."

Finally back online, they set a course for the rumored Distribution Center coordinates. As they approached, the ship's systems began to glitch wildly. "Looks like the new location's a bit buggy," Jenna laughed. "Nothing the RSI Referral Code Club can't handle!"

They managed to land despite the flickering HUD and decided to explore on foot. The crew marveled at the half-rendered architecture and T-posing NPCs, snapping pictures to share with their fellow Referral Code Club members later.

As they ventured deeper into the glitchy facility, Jenna's helmet comms crackled to life. It was her cousin, ready to join the 'verse! "Welcome aboard," she said warmly. "Remember to check the Star Citizen Referral Code Club page for all the info you need to get started. Now, want to help us map this buggy wonderland?"

With a new recruit on the way and an entire bugged-out facility to document, Jenna knew this "30K" interruption had turned into quite the adventure after all.
