Star Citizen Development Update: Salvage and New Features on the Horizon
The development of Star Citizen continued to progress with significant updates to the game's roadmap. One of the most anticipated features, Salvage, saw a shift in its implementation timeline. The Core Gameplay Pillar team had refocused their efforts on delivering features for Squadron 42 before integrating them into the Persistent Universe. This strategic decision was expected to benefit both Squadron 42 and the Persistent Universe, as features would be more polished upon release.
Salvage, now renamed "Salvage T0," was scheduled for completion in Squadron 42 by Q1 2022, with implementation in the Persistent Universe targeted for Q2 2022. The expanded scope of Salvage T0 now includes both hand-operated and ship-operated salvage, utilizing the systems onboard the Drake Vulture for hull stripping and repair.
Several new features were added to the Release View, promising exciting additions to the Star Citizen universe:
-
Derelict Spaceships - Points of Interest: Players can expect to encounter abandoned spaceships scattered across planets, offering puzzles, traversal challenges, and potential rewards.
-
Mining Gadgets: These devices allow players to modify mineable deposits, adjusting difficulty and risk levels during mining operations.
-
Ship to Ship Refueling: A new system enabling specific ships to refuel others, creating a new player-driven service economy.
-
Dying Star Map Update: The popular arena combat map is set to receive significant upgrades, including increased size and new playable areas.
-
Gravlev Physics Rework: A major overhaul of hover vehicle mechanics aims to improve stability and overall player experience.
-
DNA Head Textures Update: Visual improvements for player and NPC head models are in the works, enhancing the game's character aesthetics.
-
Selling Items to Shops: A new interface will allow players to sell items from their local inventory, supporting the recently added Loot Generation feature.
-
NPC Taxi Missions: Players will be able to transport NPCs between rest stops, with rewards based on speed, safety, and comfort.
-
Drake Vulture: The light salvage ship from Drake Interplanetary is scheduled for implementation, coinciding with the release of Salvage T0.
However, some previously planned features were temporarily removed from the Release View for rescheduling, including the Origin M50 Engine Swapping, Dynamic Door Alignment for vehicles, Player Slide and Prone mechanics, Physicalized Weapon Handling, and Ship Shield-Emitters.
These updates reflect the ongoing development and refinement of Star Citizen, as the team continues to prioritize and adjust features to create the most immersive and comprehensive space simulation experience possible. As the project evolves, players can look forward to a rich array of new gameplay elements and improved systems in the coming updates.
The Salvage Scavenger's Serendipity
Captain Zara Thorn of the Star Citizen Referral Code Club stood on the bridge of her Drake Vulture, eyes fixed on the derelict spaceship floating in the void. The newly implemented Salvage T0 system had opened up a world of opportunities for enterprising scavengers like her.
"Alright, team," she called out to her crew. "Let's see what goodies this wreck has for us."
As they approached the abandoned vessel, Zara couldn't help but marvel at how far the game had come. She remembered the days when 30K errors were a constant threat, but now they were just a funny memory that brought the community together.
The crew began their salvage operation, using their ship's hull stripping technology to carefully extract valuable materials. Suddenly, a newcomer to the Referral Code Club, Jake, called out from his station.
"Captain! I'm picking up some strange readings. Looks like... mining gadgets?"
Zara's eyes lit up. "Jackpot! Those new mining gadgets are worth a fortune. Let's grab them and head to the nearest shop to sell."
As they finished their salvage run, a distress call came through. An NPC transport was stranded nearby, out of fuel. Zara grinned, remembering the new ship-to-ship refueling feature.
"Change of plans, folks. Let's help out our digital friend and make some extra credits with a taxi mission."
The crew cheered, always eager for a new adventure. As they set course for the stranded ship, Jake turned to Zara.
"You know, Captain, I'm glad I asked what code to use when I joined Star Citizen. This club has been amazing!"
Zara nodded, proud of the Star Citizen Referral Code Club she had helped build. "That's what we're all about, Jake. Having fun and helping each other out, no matter what the 'verse throws at us."
As they approached the stranded ship, Zara couldn't help but feel excited for the future. With new features on the horizon and a great community by her side, the adventures in Star Citizen were only just beginning.
