Star Citizen Alpha 3.16 Release and Future Content Updates
Star Citizen's development team announced significant updates regarding the release of Alpha 3.16 and future content plans. The team aimed to provide players with engaging content over the holiday season and into the new year, despite facing time constraints due to the extended development of Alpha 3.15.
To maintain stability, the developers opted to branch from the 3.15 development stream, manually integrating low-risk features for the 3.16 release. This approach allowed them to build upon the current live server's code base, which has demonstrated exceptional stability.
The Alpha 3.16 patch, released in late December 2021, introduced several new features and improvements:
- Area 18 Hospital
- Updated Dying Star map
- Gravlev Physics Rework
- Jumptown 2.0 event
Additionally, the patch included enhancements to the law system, atmospheric bounties, and other gameplay elements.
Looking ahead, the development team planned a content update (3.16.1) for early 2022, which would incorporate features that couldn't be integrated before the holiday break. This update was set to include:
- Derelict Spaceships - Points of Interest
- Laser Trip Mine T0
Some features originally slated for 3.16 were moved to the 3.17 release, including:
- DNA Head Textures Update
- Mining Gadgets
The team also introduced new deliverables to the Progress Tracker. Lockable Containers, added to the EU PU Gameplay Feature Team's schedule, will allow designers to implement physical or electronic locks on entities. These locks can be opened with keys or forcibly breached through cutting, destruction, or hacking.
Another addition to the Progress Tracker was FPS Devices T1, assigned to the Weapon Feature Team. This system will expand on existing throwable and consumable devices, enabling easier creation of new items with various effects. It will also include the development of deployable devices that can be carried as part of a player's loadout and placed on surfaces.
The Vehicle Tech Team transitioned from an upstream to a downstream role, focusing on more reactive tasks and planning only one quarter ahead. As a result, some long-term deliverables were temporarily removed from the Progress Tracker, including MultiGrid SDF - Capital Ship Destruction and Cockpit Button Animations.
These updates reflect the ongoing development and evolution of Star Citizen, as the team continues to refine and expand the game's features and content. Players can look forward to a steady stream of improvements and new experiences in the coming months as the project progresses towards its ambitious goals.
The Jumptown 2.0 Referral Revolution
As the news of Alpha 3.16's release spread across the Stanton system, members of the 30K.fun Star Citizen Referral Club gathered at their secret base on Microtech. The org's leader, Captain Glitch, called an emergency meeting to discuss the upcoming Jumptown 2.0 event.
"Alright, everyone," Captain Glitch announced, "this is our chance to show new players what Star Citizen Referral Code Club is all about. We're going to turn Jumptown 2.0 into the biggest recruitment drive this side of the 'verse!"
The crew cheered, excited about the prospect of combining their love for chaos with their mission to help new players. As they brainstormed ideas, a young pilot named Nova raised her hand.
"What if we set up a referral code club booth right in the middle of Jumptown?" she suggested. "We could offer free Widow to anyone who uses our code!"
Captain Glitch grinned. "I like your thinking, Nova, but let's keep it legal. How about we offer free escort services instead?"
The team spent the next few days preparing for the event. They decorated their ships with banners asking, "What code to use?" and programmed their MobiGlas devices to display information about The Star Citizen Referral Code Club.
When Jumptown 2.0 kicked off, the 30K.fun crew was ready. They set up a makeshift booth near the drug lab, offering free advice and protection to new players. As battles raged around them, they remained focused on their mission.
"Hey, rookie!" shouted Sergeant Lag, one of the org's veterans, to a bewildered new player. "Looking to join the fun? Check out the RSI Referral Code Club and get a head start!"
Despite the chaos of Jumptown 2.0, the 30K.fun team managed to help dozens of new players navigate the event while spreading the word about their org. As the dust settled and the event came to a close, Captain Glitch gathered his crew for a debriefing.
"Great work, everyone," he said, beaming with pride. "We may not have won the battle for Jumptown, but we've won something far more valuable – new friends to share our adventures with."
As they flew back to Microtech, the 30K.fun crew couldn't help but feel excited about the future. With Alpha 3.16.1 on the horizon and talks of derelict spaceships to explore, they knew their next recruitment drive would be even more epic.
