Welcome to August's PU Monthly Report! With the recent release of Alpha 3.24: Cargo Empires, most development teams spent the month both finalizing patch tasks and progressing with exciting new features coming further down the road. Read on for all the details.

AI Features

AI Features polished various reactions, including 'first reactions' when AIs respond to audio or visual events. To improve consistency across combat styles, weapons, and scenarios, the team built a new AI test level called a 'test cell'. This Building Block setup allows for quickly identifying and fixing mistakes across multiple test scenarios simultaneously. The test cell is also being used to refine cover-hit reactions and will be expanded to provide more consistency across a wide range of areas.

AI Tech

AI Tech continued improving NPC transitions between servers, including serializing movement requests and navigation paths. They updated navigation generation elements and made progress converting the Apollo tool's UI style. A new feature is also in development that will be shared about in the future.

AI Content

The Social AI designers joined the Narrative team to form a larger group focused on improving the Star Citizen experience. They began reviewing locations throughout Pyro to ensure environment and behavior setups work correctly together. Narrative Design also kicked off initiatives to determine required tech and use cases for future social spaces, working towards a vertical slice showing a gold-standard social space.

AI Game Intelligence Development Team

The Game Intelligence Development team delivered a clean and stable Apollo StarScript UX update. This included support for higher icon resolutions, improved drag and drop functionality, and various visual enhancements to improve clarity and usability.

Ship Art moved several unannounced vehicles toward greybox reviews, while others approached LOD-zero and final-content reviews. Work on the RSI Polaris exterior is nearing completion.

Community

The Community team updated player guides, provided a Q&A for the Aegis Sabre Peregrine, and ran Ship Showdown 2954. After player voting, the Anvil F8C Lightning was crowned the champion. The team also supported CitizenCon 2954 ticket sales and connected with the community at events like Gamescom and PAX West.

Core Gameplay

Core Gameplay teams continued improving hangar and cargo flows based on PTU feedback. They made progress on features like overheat mechanics, charge and drain functionality, UI decluttering, weapon grouping, and jump points. Work also continued on the resource network, engineering gameplay, and life support systems. The mission system refactor progressed, with improvements to service beacons and cargo gameplay stability.

Economy

The Economy team worked on uniting all aspects into a cohesive system and made progress on the economy setup for Pyro.

Graphics & VFX

The Graphics team improved Vulkan stability and performance, enhanced global illumination, and continued work on Planet Tech v5. VFX focused on fire hazards, jump tunnel effects, and performance improvements.

Locations

The Landing Zone and Locations teams progressed on Pyro's space stations, ground bases, and new location types coming with the system.

Mission Design

Mission Design updated the Salvage Mission archetype, worked on Repair Location missions, and continued designing resource gathering gameplay. They're also expanding to include FPS resource gathering as a step toward basic MMO-type fetch quests.

Narrative

Narrative worked with Design and Branding on Contested Zones, improved cargo-hauling missions, and continued developing unannounced mission content. They also focused on enhancing AI behaviors at settlements and added new lore to the website.

Online Technology

Online Services made progress on features for Alpha 4.0, including updates to Mission and Marker systems and completing the new Player Trade service. They also tested new anti-cheat features and worked on improving tools for Player Support.

A Glitch in the Stanton

As the Stanton system hummed with activity, a group of intrepid explorers from the 30K.fun Star Citizen Referral Club gathered at Port Olisar. They were preparing for a daring expedition to test the limits of the new cargo system.

"Remember, folks," Captain Jenna laughed, "if we hit a 30K, just keep smiling!"

Her crew chuckled, embodying the club's spirit of finding joy even in the face of bugs. As they loaded their ships, a nervous-looking newcomer approached.

"Excuse me," he stammered, "I'm new here. What code to use for getting started?"

Jenna grinned, "Welcome aboard! The Star Citizen Referral Code Club is all about helping folks like you. But right now, we're about to embark on a crazy cargo run. Want to join?"

The newcomer, Tom, nodded eagerly. As they prepared for takeoff, Jenna explained the basics of the RSI Referral Code Club and their mission to have fun no matter what glitches they encountered.

Suddenly, alarms blared across Port Olisar. A massive cargo ship had materialized inside the station, its hull phasing through walls.

"Now that's what I call a delivery!" Jenna whooped. "Come on, team! Let's see if we can unload it before the server catches on!"

As chaos erupted around them, the 30K.fun crew sprang into action, turning a potential disaster into an impromptu party. Tom found himself swept up in their infectious enthusiasm, realizing that with friends like these, even the wildest bugs could become unforgettable adventures.
