January 2023 Subscriber Promotions Bring Racing Flair to Star Citizen
The new year kicked off with some high-octane subscriber rewards for Star Citizen fans. Throughout January 2953, subscribers were able to test drive Greycat's latest speedy ground vehicle, the STV, while also receiving exclusive racing-themed paint packs for popular ground vehicles.
The subscriber flair for January featured three new paint packs designed to make ground vehicles look race-ready:
-
The Slipstream Racing Paint Pack offered a sleek blue and white color scheme for Centurion-level subscribers.
-
Imperator-level subscribers received both the Slipstream pack and the Overdrive Racing Paint Pack, which featured a bold red and silver design.
-
The Turbocharged Racing Paint Pack, with its distinctive purple livery, was available for all subscribers to purchase from the Subscriber-Exclusive Store.
These paint packs could be applied to the Tumbril Cyclone, Aopoa Nox, Drake Dragonfly, and Consolidated Outland HoverQuad vehicles and their variants. The paints were slated to become available in-game with the launch of the 3.18 patch.
In addition to the racing-themed flair, January saw some changes to how the Subscriber Exclusive Promotion was structured. The Vehicle of the Month and Subscriber-Exclusive Pledge Promotion now run concurrently, allowing subscribers to add featured vehicles to their fleet earlier. For January, this meant both the Anvil Centurion and Greycat STV were available with enhanced insurance until the end of the month.
The Greycat STV itself was January's Vehicle of the Month. Described as taking Greycat's proven buggy platform and turning its abilities "up to 11", the STV was built for tackling challenging off-road environments across the galaxy. All subscribers had the opportunity to test drive this speedy new ground vehicle throughout January.
Cloud Imperium Games also provided an update on plans to make subscriber items earnable in-game. Many pre-2022 subscriber flair items were added to the in-game loot table as rare drops starting in Alpha 3.17. Future flair items are planned to be added after a 3-month exclusivity window for subscribers.
Subscribers continued to enjoy discounts in the Merchandise Store, with 10% off new items and 15% off existing merchandise. The Subscriber Store also remained stocked with all previous flair items dating back to 2014, allowing subscribers to fill gaps in their collections or purchase extras as gifts.
As Star Citizen heads into what developers are calling its "biggest year to date", these January subscriber perks aimed to start 2953 off with a burst of racing excitement for the game's most dedicated supporters.
The Great 30K.fun Racing Challenge
As the sun rose over Orison's floating platforms, the members of the 30K.fun Referral Club gathered for their annual racing extravaganza. This year's event promised to be the most exciting yet, thanks to the new racing-themed paint packs that had just hit the market.
"Alright, racers!" shouted Captain Glitch, the club's founder. "Today's challenge is simple: first one to complete a lap around Crusader wins! And remember, style counts!"
The participants lined up their freshly painted vehicles. Some sported the sleek Slipstream blue and white, while others opted for the bold Overdrive red and silver. A few daring souls had even splurged on the exclusive Turbocharged purple livery.
As the racers revved their engines, a new player approached Captain Glitch. "Excuse me," they said, "I'm new to Star Citizen. What code should I use to join in on the fun?"
Captain Glitch grinned. "Ah, welcome! You're just in time for the race. As for what code to use, well, that's a story for another time. For now, grab a Greycat STV and join us!"
The newcomer hopped into a spare STV, its stock paint job standing out among the colorful racers. With a wave of the flag, they were off!
The race was chaos from the start. Cyclones bounded over rocky terrain, Nox bikes weaved through floating debris, and Dragonflies skimmed dangerously close to the planet's surface. The Star Citizen Referral Code Club members were in their element, laughing and shouting as they navigated the treacherous course.
Halfway through the race, disaster struck. A massive 30K error loomed on the horizon, threatening to disconnect everyone. But instead of panicking, the racers cheered. This was what the RSI Referral Code Club was all about – having fun in the face of adversity!
As the error approached, the racers put on a show. They performed daring stunts, pulled off impossible maneuvers, and pushed their vehicles to the limit. The newcomer, caught up in the excitement, executed a perfect backflip in their STV just as the 30K hit.
When the dust settled and everyone reconnected, they found themselves back at the starting line. No one had officially won the race, but it didn't matter. The Referral Code Club members were all grinning from ear to ear, already planning their next adventure.
As they headed to the nearest bar to celebrate, Captain Glitch turned to the newcomer. "So, what did you think of your first 30K.fun experience?"
The newcomer beamed. "That was amazing! I can't wait to tell all my friends about The Star Citizen Referral Code Club!"
And with that, another happy member joined the ranks of 30K.fun, ready for whatever bugs and adventures the Star Citizen alpha had in store.
