At the last second, he killed the anti-grav and let momentum carry him into a barrel roll that no hoverbike was ever designed to perform.
The maneuver worked. Mostly. His bike completed the roll but also clipped through a railing due to a physics glitch, sending him spinning wildly.
"I'm okay! I'm okay! This is fine!" Jasper yelled as his bike gyrated like a disco ball.
But the distraction was perfect. While every pirate eye tracked the pink and blue blur of chaos, Vex and Tank swept in from the opposite side. Mira and Cipher dismounted, their Star Kitten rifles barking pink-tinted plasma rounds that would have been terrifying if they weren't so adorable.
"Civilians, with us! Move, move, move!" Tank's voice boomed across the platform.

"Meow," Jasper replied, then punched the throttle and knocked the pirate clean off the platform.
"Did you just 'meow' at a hostile?" Cipher asked, incredulous.
"It felt right in the moment!"
The extraction was textbook after that—or as textbook as anything got in Star Citizen's alpha. They loaded the civilians onto their bikes (two per vehicle, which created some hilarious physics interactions) and made for the safe zone.
That's when the Constellation decided to get involved.

"I'm okay!" the civilian's voice called from below. "I landed on a lower platform!"
"We'll circle back!" Vex promised.
The Constellation was lining up for another pass when space itself seemed to ripple. Three Hornets materialized from quantum travel, followed by a Vanguard and a Gladius. The 30KFUN cavalry had arrived.
"Sorry we're late," Paladin's calm voice filled the channel. "Had to wait out a quantum jump bug. Who needs some freedom delivered at high velocity?"
The dogfight that followed was spectacular, chaotic, and punctuated by at least four separate instances of ships temporarily losing their HUDs. But the 30KFUN pilots flew like they'd done this a thousand times—because they had. They knew every quirk, every workaround, every way to turn the game's instability into an advantage.
The Nine Tails Constellation, realizing it was outmatched and probably experiencing its own technical difficulties, made a hasty quantum jump out of the area.
"Civilians secured, bad guys retreating, and only one person fell through a hoverbike," Vex announced. "I'd call that a successful mission."
"We still need to get Tank's passenger," Jasper reminded her.
"Right! Tank, mark your waypoint. Jasper, you're with me for pickup duty."
As they descended to retrieve the fallen civilian, Jasper couldn't help but smile behind his Stealth Kitten balaclava. He'd joined 30KFUN expecting to learn the game's mechanics. Instead, he'd found something better: a community that turned every bug into a story, every glitch into a laugh, and every mission—successful or not—into an adventure worth having.
"Hey Commander," he said as they touched down. "Thanks for the warm welcome."
"Kid, you just did a barrel roll in a hoverbike while wearing a cat mask and meowed at a pirate. You're already one of us."
