One Last Job: Part Two

The tension aboard the Open Sky was palpable as Jonah Ruskella found himself caught between impossible choices. What was supposed to be a simple cargo delivery for the notorious criminal Mickey Black had turned into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an Advocacy agent on board.

Jonah had broken into a cold sweat for the second time that day. They were already at the jump point, en route to drop off supplies to a known criminal, with a ship full of passengers that weren't supposed to be there - including an Advocacy Agent who happened to be the criminal's former partner. Things were most definitely not going according to plan.

Desperate for guidance, Jonah contacted Mickey using an emergency code he'd only used a handful of times before. Mickey was not pleased to hear from him.

"How big a problem we talkin', Jonah my boy?" Mickey asked, an edge to his normally calm voice.

"Oh, about six feet tall, goes by the name of Ardoss," Jonah replied nervously.

Mickey immediately recognized the name as Pietro's former Advocacy partner. This complicated matters significantly. Mickey made it clear the job still needed to be done - Pietro had to be taken care of, and Ardoss could not be allowed to interfere.

"Kill him," Mickey ordered coldly.

Jonah's blood ran cold at the command. He'd never killed anyone before. But Mickey made it clear that if Ardoss lived, the entire operation would be at risk. And if Jonah failed to follow through, Mickey would ensure he paid the price one way or another.

With shaking hands, Jonah retrieved the hidden gun Mickey had stashed in the cargo for Pietro. He'd never even fired a weapon before. But he knew he had to act soon, before Ardoss could cause any more trouble.

As Jonah steeled himself for what he had to do, his co-pilot Char returned from checking the cargo hold. She immediately sensed something was wrong. "Jesus, Jo, you look pale as a sheet," she said with concern. "Are you all right?"

Jonah brushed off her questions, saying he needed to check something in the cargo hold. But Char wasn't buying it. After 16 years working together, she knew when Jonah was hiding something.

Meanwhile, Agent Ardoss was growing increasingly suspicious. He hadn't had any prior dealings with Jonah Ruskella, but the pilot's odd behavior was setting off alarm bells. When Jonah emerged from the cockpit looking deathly pale and headed for the cargo hold, Ardoss decided to follow.

As he rounded the corner into the hold, Ardoss found himself staring down the barrel of Jonah's gun.

"Let's not do anything we're going to regret, Ruskella," Ardoss said calmly, raising his hands.

"I regret too much already," Jonah replied, his voice shaking. "This was supposed to be an easy drop-off. That's it, but you had to go and make it harder. You should have stayed out of it and let Pietro get away."

Ardoss could see the fear and desperation in Jonah's eyes. This man wasn't a killer - he didn't even hold the gun properly. Ardoss tried to talk him down, explaining that he was only after Pietro. If Jonah helped him, he wouldn't see the inside of a jail cell.

But Jonah knew better. "If I give you Pietro, I'm a dead man," he said.

Just then, the ship shuddered violently. Someone else had taken control of the Open Sky.

Realizing they now had a common enemy, Ardoss offered to help Jonah regain control of his ship. After some debate, Jonah reluctantly agreed to work with the Advocacy agent - for now. Along with Char, they hatched a plan to access the cockpit via the emergency hatch.

As they made their way along the outside of the ship, Ardoss tried to learn more about Jonah and Char's relationship. He was surprised to discover they'd known each other for 16 years, and that Char had known about Jonah's dealings with Mickey Black for the past decade without ever mentioning it.

"Jonah's a good man," Char explained. "He wouldn't work for Mickey if he had a choice. That's the way Mickey Black works - he finds something on you, a way to squeeze you. He manipulates you into doing what he needs done."

Before Ardoss could inquire further, they reached the cockpit. As Char opened the emergency hatch, the sudden decompression knocked Ardoss loose. To his horror, he found himself drifting away from the ship as his oxygen supply rapidly depleted.

The Open Sky grew smaller and smaller as Ardoss floated helplessly into the void of space. With only minutes of air left, he struggled to remain calm in the face of what seemed like certain death.

Jonah and Char's fate, along with that of the ship and its passengers, remained uncertain. But one thing was clear - this "one last job" for Mickey Black was far from over...

The 30K.fun Star Citizen Saga: A Buggy Adventure

Captain Zara Novak cursed under her breath as her Constellation Andromeda's engines sputtered and died, leaving her stranded in the vast emptiness of space between Hurston and Crusader. She'd been on a routine cargo run when everything went sideways.

"Not another 30K," she groaned, reaching for her mobiGlas to check for server status updates.

As she waited for her ship to reconnect, Zara's thoughts drifted to the referral code club she'd recently joined. The 30K.fun group had a knack for finding humor in these frustrating moments.

Just then, her comms crackled to life. "This is the good ship Lollipop, do you copy? We noticed you're having some trouble there."

Zara chuckled, recognizing the voice of her fellow 30K.fun member, Jack "Buggy" McGee. "Roger that, Lollipop. Looks like the verse decided to hiccup on me again."

"No worries, Captain! We'll stick around until you're back online. In the meantime, why don't you tell me about how you found our little referral code club?"

As Zara recounted her story of searching for what code to use when she first pledged, her ship suddenly lurched back to life. The stars around her shifted, and she found herself inexplicably transported to the surface of microTech.

"Well, that's new," she muttered, taking in the snowy landscape.

"Welcome back!" Jack's voice chimed in. "Looks like the verse decided to give you a change of scenery. Want to meet up at New Babbage for some hot chocolate? I hear they're having a special for RSI referral code club members."

Zara grinned, firing up her engines. "You're on, Buggy. First round's on me – assuming the bartender AI doesn't glitch out on us!"

As she flew towards the city, Zara couldn't help but feel grateful for the Star Citizen Referral Code Club and the friends she'd made there. No matter what bugs the alpha threw their way, they always found a way to have fun.
